Kuala Lumpur, 20 March 2026 – The Malaysia–Thailand horror thriller Kong Tao, starring Hong Kong actor Philip Keung, Thai actress Kao Supassara Thanachat, local actors Bront Palarae, Yumi Wong, Eric Lay, Singapore actor Glenn Yong, and Mayiduo, has achieved an impressive box office milestone.

Just one day after its nationwide release, the film recorded RM1 million in ticket sales by 8:00 PM on 20 March, making it the fastest local Chinese-language black magic-themed film in Malaysian history to cross the million-mark milestone.

Upon hearing the news, Kao Supassara Thanachat expressed her excitement and gratitude to audiences:

“I’m very happy. This is my first international film, and to achieve such results is truly encouraging. I hope fans and audiences will continue supporting the movie so it can keep climbing higher.”

Philip Keung, who learned of the milestone during a fan meet session, also encouraged everyone to head to cinemas with family and friends:

“It’s wonderful to receive such positive news right after release! For every RM1 million milestone, we will definitely prepare surprises for everyone. Thank you for the support!”

Other cast members shared similar excitement, thanking audiences and urging fans to spread the word about the film.

Prior to its official release on 19 March, Kong Tao held grand premiere events in Penang and the Klang Valley, where the full cast walked the red carpet and met fans.

Following the premieres, the cast continued their promotional tour without pause. After attending multiple media interviews, they spent the following day visiting cinemas and shopping malls across the Klang Valley for fan meet-and-greet sessions, drawing huge crowds at every stop and demonstrating the strong appeal of the stars.

The story centers on a mysterious mass black magic incident involving students. Thai journalist Fon investigates the decades-old case and encounters four YouTubers — Chenxin, Wei Kang, Potato, and Weien — who traveled to Thailand for paranormal exploration. Upon returning home, they begin experiencing terrifying supernatural events, culminating in Wei Kang’s mysterious death.

Directed by Peiji Goh (The Locksmith) and cinematographer-turned-director Yong Choon Lin (PASKAL), and produced by CH Chiah, the film unites talents from Hong Kong, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore. Presented by Mega Films Distribution, it is co-produced by Distinct Entertainment, de Kangaroo Pictures, Amphibia Films, King Kong Media Production, Clover Films, Think Media, and Sing Lian Ping, with support from Malaysia’s Ministry of Communications and FINAS.

Mega Films Distribution also announced that, besides Malaysia and Singapore, Kong Tao will be screened in Taiwan from 2 April, with releases planned in Myanmar, Vietnam, and Hong Kong in April. Further screenings are being arranged in Thailand, the Philippines, South Korea, Japan, India, and Nepal.
